Earnings Per Share

The Earnings Per Share (EPS) can be found at the following sections of ShareInvestor WebPro and Station:

EPS represents the portion of a company’s net profits, based on the last fiscal year earnings as reported, allocated to each ordinary share. A widely used metric to determine a company’s profitability, EPS is also used in the computation of another important valuation metric, the Price/Earnings (P/E) ratio.

With due consideration to the quality of the earnings figure, investors typically seek a positive trend of steadily increasing EPS as an indication of the company’s ability to generate, sustain and grow its profits.

Rolling EPS

ROLLING EPS represents the portion of a company’s net profits, based on the sum of the last four quarterly earnings as reported, allocated to each ordinary share. A more current metric to determine a company’s profitability, Rolling EPS is also used in the computation of another important valuation metric, the Rolling Price/Earnings (P/E) ratio.

With due consideration to the quality of the earnings figure, a higher Rolling EPS as compared to EPS suggests the company’s improved profitability over the last fiscal year, and vice versa.

The term “Rolling EPS” is used interchangeably with the term “Trailing EPS”.
