How to use Price Analysis

 What is Price Analysis?

Price analysis examines historical price data to identify trends and market conditions, helping businesses and investors make informed decisions. It involves techniques like trend analysis and comparative analysis to predict future price movements and assess risks.

 Volume Distribution Charts

Exclusive to ShareInvestor, the Volume Distribution Chart is a statistical interpretation of the current sentiment on each stock in graphical format. ShareInvestor provides 1 Day, 5 Days and 10 Days Volume Distribution Chart.

The Volume Distribution Chart goes through all the transactions, broken down by the volume done per trade and groups each trade into four different bars, differentiated by “Buying Up (BU)” and “Selling Down (SD)” activity. Simply speaking, for the 4 sets of bars, the highest set is likely to be traded by institution/super dealers, while lowest set usually represents retail investors.

Each set of two bars represents the number of lots being ‘Buy Up’ or ‘Sell Down’ at that transaction value. When we say ‘Buy Up’ (the lower bar with the stronger colour) it refers to the more impatience buyers snatching up the lots queued at the selling price, and we use ‘Sell Down’ (the upper bar in the fainter colour) to mean the panicky seller selling their shares to the buying queue.

Each bar can have up to 4 different colour parts and it represents the period that the trade occurred.

 Seasonality Chart

A seasonality chart displays recurring patterns or trends in data over specific periods. It helps illustrate how variables, such as price or volume, fluctuate during these intervals. By visualizing these trends, analysts can identify seasonal influences, make informed predictions, and optimize strategies for various applications, such as sales forecasting and inventory management.

 Historical Prices

Historical Prices shows a log of the daily Open, High, Low and Closing share price and Cumulative Volume done in any stock for the past 3 years. The information is presented in chronological order with the latest record at the beginning of the table.

Historical Prices is used to identify price and volume trends in a table format. A stock whose price rises daily with increasing cumulative volume usually indicates that the stock is in an upward trend.

Historical Prices shown are adjusted for corporate events. These include stock splits, rights issues and bonus issues. This ensures that the daily prices are always comparable across different periods.

 Price Download

Price Download allows the historical price data to be downloaded in Comma Separated Value (CSV) format to be the user’s PC.

Price Download is useful for chartists who rely on our comprehensive database of historical price data for your own analysis in Excel or for importing into external charting application like MetaStock.

The data are adjusted for corporate events. These include stock splits, rights issues and bonus issues. This ensures that the daily prices are always comparable across different periods.

 What data can you download?

  1. Historical Price
  2. Intraday Price
  3. Time & Sales
  4. Trade Summary Matrix (TSM)
  5. Quote Movements

Trade Summary Matrix

The Trade Summary Matrix shows a consolidated table of the trade done for a stock by prices and number of trades.

The Trade Summary Matrix is useful in identifying the price level which has the most number of trade done for the day. This is useful to check the support and resistance level of the stock for the day. You can also use it as a gauge and plan your entry price to buy the stock.

Quote Movements

Quote Movements is an extension of the Time & Sales. On top of showing all the transactions, it also captures the changes in the first level buy and sell queue.

Quote Movements is useful for identifying substantial blocks of transaction done, possibly indicating whether institutional interest is involved. You can also observe movement within the first level buy/sell queue for orders that are not transacted. This helps to plan your point of entry into a stock.

For example, through the Quote Movements, you may observe the repeated addition of buy orders and continuous trading done at the sell queue in large volume signalling substantial interest in buying up the stock.

The Quote Movements is sorted in chronological order and the latest changes appears first. An entry with a “+” sign indicates volume is added at the price point stated and a “-” sign indicates volume is removed or a trade is done at the price point stated

Time & Sales

Time & Sales shows the individual trade done in chronological order with a time stamp for each transaction. The latest transaction is shown first. It also keeps a cumulative volume for the entire trading day.

The Time & Sales is useful to track the price movement of a stock. Transactions with substantial volume are highlighted to show institutional activities that may affect the future price trend of the stock. Stocks with continued transactions in the Time and Sales and substantial buy-up volume may indicate further upside for the stock.

Some unique features of Time & Sales:

Data is Live and available immediately. Refresh the page to see the latest trades

Up to 10 days of data for all counters.

Trades are classified into “Buy Up” or “Sell Down”, using a proprietary algorithm developed by ShareInvestor. This algorithm can also differentiate between “Married Deals” and “Preopen/Preclose” trades.

For quick analysis, trades are colour-coded to identify trades done at a different price from the previous trade. If the transactional value of the trade is more than $150,000, the entire row is highlighted. This allows you to quickly spot big trades.
